Overview of how the digitalSTROM Sonos vDC version 2 app works:
In comparison to version 1, the speakers are now considered as normal devices in the DS configuration.
After the app has been installed, the Sonos speakers must first be detected in the home network.
Once they have been detected, they must be connected to the digitalSTROM server.
The next step is to assign the speakers to the corresponding zones. These devices can be found under the Rooms - New Devices tab.
How are they assigned to the corresponding zones? Like a digitalSTROM terminal.
Two basic functionalities are now available:
As in version 1. the "Presets" are classic digitalSTROM presets and play playlists, stations, favourites or songs stored on Sonos devices.
Presets can be defined in the app and then called up with the corresponding audio assignment, e.g. by pressing a designated button.
Activities can be used to send audio files directly to the players, temporarily overloading an existing playback.
The activities are defined within the application (what is to be played and where). The time at which these activities are actually called up can be defined in the digitalSTROM Configurator applications, for example :
- Scene responder
- User defined action
- etc.
This is how it works:
You configured an "audio activity" in a new activity that is to be executed when a certain trigger occurs, these can be:
- Ringing
- weather
- time
- etc
Under "Audio activity" you will find all activities that you have previously defined in the digitalSTROM Sonos app.
Clips:
In comparison to version 1, it is not possible to enter text directly, which is then played back as audio.
Instead, predefined mp3 clips must be uploaded, which can then be played out.
To create such clips, there are free online services, for example https://ttsmp3.com.
The clips created can then be imported directly into the application.
