There are now several digitalSTROM servers, including the dSS-IP. Instructions for the dSS-IP can be found here. This article explains the differences between the servers.
The servers differ mainly by the performance, in place of installation and the connection for the dS485 bus, to which the meters (dSM) can be connected. Each server with dS485 bus can also be switched to a gateway mode, which makes the connected meters available to another server. The server in gateway mode will take no further action. However, it must also be updated when a software update is available.
dSS11
First there was the server dSS11 for the DIN rail (top-hat rail) in the fuse box. This first server still had a SD card integrated as a data storage. Unfortunately, SD cards do not last forever, so shortly thereafter the dSS11-1GB was offered. This server is technically the same as the dSS11, but it has a 1GB flash memory built in and does not provide a SD card slot. Both servers are 1 TE (division unit) wide, so occupy as much space in the fuse box as a commercial fuse. In addition, there is the power supply, so that a total of 2 TE (division units) are occupied. The server has a port for the dS485 bus, so the meters can be connected directly to this server.
dSS11-E
Since the performance of the dSS11-1GB is no longer sufficient for all purposes, the dSS11-E was developed. This server can not be installed in the fuse box because of its design, but must be accommodated in a multimedia cabinet or something like that. The electricity is provided via an enclosed plug-in power supply. This server has a much higher performance than the dSS11-1GB. The server has a port for the dS485 bus, so the meters can be connected directly to this server. Alternatively, the server can access meters via another server that has been switched to gateway mode.
dSS-IP
The dSS-IP can not be installed in the fuse box due to its design, but must be placed in a multimedia cabinet or something similar. The electricity is provided via an enclosed plug-in power supply. This server has a much higher performance thatn the dSS11-1GB. The server is very inexpensive, but is not equipped with a connection for the dS485 bus. So no meters can be connected directly to this server. Nevertheless, the server can access meters via another server that has been switched to gateway mode. This server offers an extremely low-priced entry into the networked digitalSTROM world (with smartphone apps, control of IP devices such as Hue and Sonos, bots, etc.) and can later still be extended (with a gateway-dSS) to control digitalSTROM terminal blocks.
dSS20 / dSS22
The dSS20 is the latest digitalSTROM server. It also offers significantly more performance than the dSS11-1GB. The server is 2 division units wide, but the power supply is already included so that it does not require more space in the fuse box than the dSS11-1GB. The server provides a port for the dS485 bus, so the meters can be connected directly to this server. The server is also offered as dSS22, a version for building management systems and then includes an additional ethernet interface for these systems.
